The Student Council is established for a one-year term and consists of up to fifteen students. Members are partly elected by their colleges — two students from the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and one student from each of the other colleges — while the remaining members are appointed by the Director based on the Vice Director’s recommendation. A committee formed by the Director supervises the election process in coordination with college deans and administration, ensuring fair representation of all colleges, disciplines, and student groups. In exceptional cases where elections cannot be completed, the Director may form the Council based on nominations. The Student Affairs Department provides administrative and organizational support.
The Council develops and reviews its bylaws and procedures in coordination with the administration, and approves and oversees its plans and programs. It coordinates its committees, ensures communication between students and the University, and conveys student feedback to the relevant authorities. It studies student-related issues and submits recommendations, collaborates with colleges, departments, and external student bodies, and ensures compliance with University policies. It also supports student initiatives, proposes events, prepares periodic reports, establishes subcommittees as needed, and carries out other duties assigned by University leadership.
The Council elects a Chairperson and Vice Chairperson from among its members at its first meeting by absolute majority, or they are appointed by the Vice Director if elections are inconclusive. The Chairperson presides over meetings and represents the Council; the Vice Chairperson acts in their absence. The Council meets at least once per semester, with additional meetings as needed. Decisions are taken by majority vote with a quorum of more than half the members; in a tie, the Chairperson has the casting vote. Council recommendations are advisory and require approval by the Vice Director. All meetings and activities must be coordinated with and approved by the administration and must not interfere with academic commitments, which take priority.
