With the aim of informing students about the legal evidence relevant to combating crimes that threaten society and understanding the latest scientific methods of gathering and analysing evidence in various cases, the Faculty of Sharia and Law at the University of Khorfakkan, in collaboration with the Sharjah Police General Headquarters and the Federal Appeals Court of Abu Dhabi, organized a dialogue session titled “The Role of Evidence between Legal and Scientific Evidence.” The session was attended by His Excellency Professor Ahmed Al Shamma, Chancellor of University of Khorfakkan, along with members of the faculty, administration, and students of the university.
His Excellency Judge Ahmed Saeed Al Naqbi, the President of the Federal Appeals Court in Abu Dhabi, participated in the dialogue session via video call and provided a brief overview of modern scientific evidence used in criminal prosecution in courts, and how to achieve a balance between legal evidence and scientific facts in judgments, and the impact of a judge’s personal experience on ensuring justice.
First Lieutenant Salem Obaid Al Khayyal, a forensic evidence expert at the Sharjah Police General Headquarters, presented the methods and techniques used in gathering and analyzing evidence in the forensic laboratory, highlighting the technical and legal challenges faced by experts in the field of forensic evidence sciences and ways to overcome them. Al-Khaytal also gave an overview of the experts’ work mechanism in the laboratory and their role in supporting judicial work.
Alongside the dialogue session, an exhibition was organized where master’s students in public law presented their various projects related to crimes such as theft, defamation, and adultery, along with the scientific methods used to detect them and the extent of interest of Islamic Sharia.
Representitives from Sharjah Police General Headquarters also participated in dedicated sections for the Investigations and Criminal Investigations Department, the Crime Scene Department, and the Forensic Laboratory, showcasing their diverse capabilities in gathering and analyzing evidence in various cases.
