SHARJAH MARINE SCIENCE RESEARCH CENTRE WELCOMES JOURNALIST NAKA KONDO

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen its international presence and highlight its research contributions to environmental issues and the blue economy across global media platforms, Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre welcomed journalist Naka Kondo from UK-based The Economist and Editorial Lead at the World Ocean Initiative. The visit aimed to shed light on the leading research initiatives and scientific projects of University of Khorfakkan and its Marine Science Research Centre in the fields of marine science and aquatic life conservation. The visit included a dialogue session titled “A Journey Towards Understanding the Oceans,” featuring Prof. Stephen Widdicombe, Director of Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre. The discussion addressed the importance of marine sustainability, the Centre’s efforts in ocean protection and blue-economy development, and the role of scientific research in supporting environmental sustainability. The session provided faculty members and students with an opportunity to exchange scientific knowledge and research expertise, followed by an introductory tour of the Centre’s facilities, activities, and current and future research projects. The visit underscored the significance of strengthening international collaboration among universities, research institutions, and media organizations, while highlighting the Centre’s efforts in protecting marine ecosystems. It also reflects the University’s commitment to providing an engaging educational and research environment that enables students to stay informed about the latest advancements and engage with global thought leaders.
