The event brought together leading researchers and academics from more than 40 Arab and German universities and research institutions, underscoring the University’s growing role in advancing international research collaboration and contributing to global academic initiatives that support sustainable development.
The conference focused on strengthening research partnerships between Arab and German institutions across a wide range of fields, including health and medical sciences, food and water sustainability, innovation, technology and space, smart sustainable cities, and the humanities and social sciences. Special emphasis was placed on empowering young researchers and promoting long-term international research networks.
In his virtual opening remarks, His Excellency Professor Ali Hilal Alnaqbi, Chancellor of UKF, welcomed participants and expressed pride in the University’s role in co-hosting this major academic event. He highlighted the importance of Arab-German collaboration in generating innovative solutions to regional and global challenges—particularly in water and food security. He also noted the strong academic contributions of the College of Marine Sciences and Aquatic Biology and the Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre in advancing marine biodiversity studies and environmental sustainability.
The day’s program included a scientific session on “Water and Food Security,” featuring experts from Arab and German institutions alongside Khorfakkan University faculty members. Discussions addressed regional environmental challenges and the potential of research and emerging technologies to ensure sustainable natural resources. The session also showcased future collaboration opportunities and concluded with an open dialogue and several interactive workshops covering innovation, health, society, development, energy, water, and education.
Activities concluded with a field visit to the Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre, where delegates were briefed on the University’s environmental and marine research efforts, current projects, and initiatives supporting marine exploration and the preservation of ecological systems.
