University of Khorfakkan, (UKF) took part in the World Conservation Congress 2025, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and organized by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Hosted for the first time in the Gulf Cooperation Council region by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, this global event represents a leading platform dedicated to biodiversity preservation and environmental protection.
The University’s participation reflects its strong commitment to advancing research in the field of environmental sustainability and raising global awareness about the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. As a pioneering academic institution, UKF continues to contribute to shaping a balanced and sustainable future between humanity and nature.
The University marked a notable research presence through the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members in sessions addressing key issues related to marine environmental protection. These sessions explored themes such as sustainable approaches to ocean and marine conservation through research, policy, and education; the unintended impacts of non-selective fishing practices and viable solutions; and strategic frameworks for safeguarding marine species and preserving aquatic biodiversity. The discussions also included perspectives on empowering younger generations to lead in sustainability fields.
Meanwhile, the Sharjah Marine Science Research Centre’s pavilion attracted significant attention from visitors and researchers alike. Featuring an interactive platform titled “Meet Our Expert,” it showcased the University’s achievements in marine research, international collaborations, and efforts to preserve regional biodiversity through its College of Marine Sciences and Aquatic Biology. The exhibit embodied UKF’s scientific and community role in supporting sustainability goals and protecting marine environments.
