IN A STEP TOWARDS EMPOWERING WOMEN IN RESEARCH AND INNOVATION UKF HOSTS THE FIFTH FORUM FOR WOMEN IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

As part of its ongoing efforts to support the empowerment of women in various scientific and research fields, University of Khorfakkan (UKF), as an academic partner, hosted the second day of the Fifth Women's Forum in Scientific Research. The forum is organized by University of Sharjah under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of University of Sharjah (UOS). This year’s theme, "Power... Together We Innovate to Shape the Future," highlights the inspiring achievements of women in scientific research and innovation on both local and global levels while emphasizing their pioneering role in driving development and progress. In his opening speech, Professor Ali Hilal Alnaqbi, Chancellor of UKF, welcomed the attendees and participants from both inside and outside the country. He expressed his delight at participating in the forum for the second consecutive year as an academic partner, reflecting the strong collaboration between UKF and the UOS in empowering women in research and academic excellence. He praised the pioneering female leaders in Sharjah and UAE for their continuous support of women and their outstanding contributions to various scientific and knowledge-based fields. He also highlighted UKF’s focus on marine science and technology, a modern and vital scientific discipline. The University offers a specialized academic program in marine sciences in collaboration with the prestigious University of Exeter, UK. This initiative opens new and advanced research avenues that serve the community and support sustainable development in the region. Dr. Noora Alkarbi, Head of Community Relations for Scientific Research at University of Sharjah and Co-Chair of the Forum, emphasized the importance of the event as a valuable opportunity for female researchers to exchange knowledge and experiences on a global scale. The forum welcomed participants from universities worldwide, aiming to inspire more women to contribute their expertise and skills to various fields of scientific research and innovation. Additionally, she commended the UAE's visionary leadership for its significant support in fostering collaboration and integration among individuals and institutions, ensuring that each person and organization plays a role in developing society and achieving shared goals. The second day of the forum witnessed wide participation from female researchers and award winners, featuring a variety of research papers and scientific studies across multiple disciplines. Her Excellency Sheikha Alnaqbi, Vice Chancellor for Financial and Administrative Affairs at UKF, presented a session on “The Impact of Emirati Women's Engagement in Higher Education Leadership.” Meanwhile, Dr. Ruqaya Al Amiri, Assistant Professor at the College of Marine Sciences and Aquatic Biology at UKF, discussed “Enhancing Sustainable Development through Sharjah’s Marine Initiatives and the Role of the Aquatic Biology Program.” The forum also showcased outstanding experiences and successful scientific research conducted by women in social sciences and humanities, engineering and computer science, medicine and health sciences, and industry. Additionally, a special interactive session was held, highlighting the significance of supporting young female researchers and presenting inspiring examples of women in leadership. The forum concluded with an honoring ceremony for the forum’s committee members, recognizing their efforts in organizing this distinguished scientific event. The closing activities were followed by a tour of Khorfakkan, organized by Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority. The tour introduced participants to the city's remarkable historical and tourist landmarks.
